アプリケーションもしくはコンピューティング環境全体の過去の運用状態を再形成すること．アプリケーションやコンピューティング環境が破壊されたり，もしくは使用不可能な状況に陥った後には復旧が必要になる．同様にデータが破壊された場合，復旧はアプリケーションデータの修復も含んでいる場合がある．
