実際に必要な容量よりも大きな容量を意図的に割り当てる事。将来の容量枯渇を避ける為に実施される例がある。フラッシュストレージにおいては、性能向上やデバイス寿命を延ばす目的で、ユーザからは使用できない追加の容量が、コントローラの使用のために確保される。

使用分野: Storage System/Management

Purposely allocating more capacity than strictly required. E.g., to avoid future out-of-capacity events. E.g., in flash storage, extra capacity is reserved for controller use, is not addressable by the user, and is used to improve performance and device life.
